How the University of Cyprus and PHAETHON CoE maximise the impact and sustainability of DATA CELLAR
PHAETHON CoE (previously FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy) is a Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence of the University of Cyprus specialising in the field of Intelligent, Efficient, and Sustainable Energy Solutions.
The Centre’s establishment follows the top-ranked evaluation of the eponymous project proposal under the prestigious Horizon Europe “Teaming for Excellence” Call for Proposals, signalling in parallel the evolution and upgrade of the UCY FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy toward a world-class Centre of Excellence. In this regard, the nascent Centre builds upon the successful 10-year track-record of FOSS, while also transferring excellence through its partnership with the leading European institutions in energy transition and sustainability (namely, the Technical University of Denmark and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, as the Advanced Partners in the PHAETHON project consortium).
The PHAETHON Centre of Excellence aims to serve as a catalyst for excellence in the energy field, focusing on the development of solutions and applications that can address a wide range of contemporary global energy challenges. Driven by the timely energy transition and prevailing climate change challenges, the Research and Innovation focus of PHAETHON CoE is on intelligent, efficient, and sustainable energy solutions, fully aligned to the European Green Deal priorities. This remit places PHAETHON CoE at the heart of the energy ecosystem in not only Cyprus and the surrounding region, but worldwide, in the broader pursuit of a more sustainable and secure energy future.
What is the role of the University of Cyprus (PHAETHON CoE) in DATA CELLAR?
The University of Cyprus (PHAETHON CoE) leads the design and implementation of a training plan for potential end users of DATA CELLAR. This includes developing training materials, organising hands-on workshops and webinars, and providing ongoing support to facilitate user adoption and maximise the impact of DATA CELLAR. Moreover, the University of Cyprus also contributes to the interoperability of DATA CELLAR with other dataspaces, coordinating the related work package.
Why is the University of Cyprus (PHAETHON CoE) important for DATA CELLAR?
Developing an effective training plan for DATA CELLAR facilitates the transfer of its solutions and tools to end users, ensuring the project’s impact extends beyond its lifetime. As a leading research institution, the University of Cyprus (PHAETHON CoE) not only brings technical expertise in renewable energy integration, smart grids, and energy communities but also possesses vast experience in specialised training activities for professionals and the public.
