STeP Talks x DATA CELLAR: AI-Driven Energy and the Law

DATA CELLAR has been invited to participate in the upcoming STeP Talks, organised by the Security, Technology and ePrivacy (STeP) research group at the University of Groningen. This monthly event brings together experts to explore various topics related to technology law, and this edition will focus on the Explainability of AI-driven Energy Services and the Law.

About the STeP Talks DATA CELLAR Edition

The European Union is currently undergoing a digital transformation in its energy sector, with increasing reliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This shift raises critical questions about AI regulation, its role in energy markets, and the importance of explainability in AI-driven energy services.

The SteP Talks DATA CELLAR edition will address questions such as:

  • How is AI regulated in the energy sector?
  • What are AI-driven Energy Services and how are they being implemented in the energy markets as well as data ecosystems such as energy data spaces?
  • How to attain explainability of AI-driven Energy Services?

This session will offer insights into the relationship between Explainability of AI-driven Enery Services, Energy Data Spaces, and the Law.

Expert speakers

Two members of the DATA CELLAR consortium will be the speakers during this STeP Talk.

  • Natalia Lisowska (PhD Researcher, University of Groningen) – Specializing in the intersection of data protection law and energy law, focusing on energy data spaces and energy justice.
  • Chris Tzouvaras (Senior Research Analyst, Trilateral Research) – Expert in explainable AI (XAI), data management, and research ethics, with a focus on energy efficiency and AI-driven energy services.
