DATA CELLAR 5th General Assembly in Turin
On December 4-5, 2024, the city of Turin, Italy, became the meeting point for discussions and strategic planning within the fifth DATA CELLAR General Assembly. Hosted by LINKS Foundation at their headquarters, this milestone event in the project’s 31st month brought together consortium partners to review achievements, tackle challenges, and chart the path forward for advancing federated energy dataspace initiatives. Our aim remains to support the creation and management of local energy communities (LECs) across Europe, fostering a more sustainable energy future.
Day 1: reports, workshops and collaboration
The assembly started with a warm welcome by our coordinator Martina Galluccio from RINA Consulting and Maurizio Fantino from LINKS Foundation, setting the stage for two days of intense discussions. The morning sessions opened with a detailed discussion led by the University of Cyprus on the interoperability and federation of EU energy data spaces. The participants reviewed progress, identified challenges, and discussed strategies for the upcoming review meeting of the project.
This was followed by QUE Technologies’ presentation on their work package, covering the development of the ICT architecture reference and the edge and cloud platform, which serve as the foundation of the DATA CELLAR infrastructure. Following this, UBITECH Energy partners delved into data-driven energy services development, highlighting key milestones, ongoing validations, and solutions to blockers hindering seamless integration.
Moreover, LINKS Foundation gave a presentation focusing on the data marketplace and innovative approaches to tokenisation and distributed ledger technologies. Interactive demonstrations showcased functionalities like loyalty platforms and marketplace integration.
In the afternoon, Zabala Innovation carried out a workshop on best practices and techniques to maximise the impact of communication and dissemination activities in EU projects.
The day concluded with parallel working sessions: QUE Technologies, CTIC Centro Tecnológico, CEA and LINKS hosted a workshop on the demo of the platform, while the University of Groningen, Trilateral Research and the validation cases led discussions on legal and ethical dimensions of data use.
Day 2: future directions of DATA CELLAR
Day two opened with a recap of the first day, followed by a session led by RINA Consulting focused on exploring strategies for ensuring the long-term sustainability of DATA CELLAR through next-generation data marketplaces.
The morning continued with a review of the management and coordination work package, including updates on milestones and action plans. Afterward, a training course open to people not involved in the project was facilitated by the coordinator, University of Cyprus and LINKS. It started with a general overview of the project and its impacts, and it was followed by a presentation about the need for data marketplaces and AI models in the energy field.
The assembly concluded with a visit to the premises of LINKS Foundation, offering participants a first-hand view of their innovative facilities and ongoing projects.
